Bochdalek hernias arise from a developmental failure of the pleuroperitoneal canal to close, allowing abdominal contents to herniate into the thorax and compress the developing lung parenchyma. In rare cases, Bochdalek hernias may arise in adults and usually present with symptoms related to the hernia. Treatment consists of either open, laparoscopic, or robotic repair to close the defect.

Hydrosilylation of porous silicon: Unusual possibilities and potential challenges.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Biological Science and Technology, China Medical University, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Among the many types of surface modifications on porous silicon (pSi), hydrosilylation stands out to be an important approach due to the formation of highly stable surface linkage through Si-C bonding. Since its conceptualization in 1998, hydrosilylation had gradually gained popularity for pSi surface modifications and had become an important approach for stabilizing pSi surfaces especially for biological applications. Over the past decade, significant advancements have been made in the hydrosilylation process for modifying porous silicon (pSi) surfaces.

The field of π-conjugated organic materials has seen significant advances in recent years. However, enhancing the functionality of well-established, mass-produced compounds remains a considerable challenge, despite being an intriguing strategy for designing high-value organic materials with low production costs. In this context, vat dyes, known for their wide range of colors and extensive use in the textile industry are particularly attractive.

is a ubiquitous organism classified as a nontuberculous mycobacterium that rarely causes indolent skin or soft-tissue infections, especially in immunocompromised patients. Given the rarity of infection, diagnosis can be difficult because cutaneous lesions may be considered a worsening of the underlying disease or a benign condition. Here, we report a case of a rapidly progressing cutaneous infection in a patient with nephrotic syndrome.

Imine-containing azaarene-based triarylmethanes are vital molecular motifs that are prevalent in a wide array of bioactive compounds. Recognizing the limitations of current synthetic methodologies─marked by a scarcity of examples and difficulties in flexible functional group modulation─we have developed an efficient and modular asymmetric photochemical strategy employing pyridotriazoles and boronic acids as substrates. Utilizing novel chiral diamine-derived pyrroles and primary amines as catalysts, we successfully synthesized a diverse range of triarylmethanes with high yields and excellent enantioselectivities.
