Evaluating the effectiveness of patient-tailored treatment for patients with non-specific (sub)acute neck pain.

Musculoskelet Sci Pract

February 2025

Ghent University, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, Corneel Heymanslaan 10 (3B3), 9000, Ghent, Belgium. Electronic address:

Background: An important issue in the debate about best practice management of non-specific neck pain (NSNP) is the effectiveness of tailored versus generalized interventions.

Methods: Participants with (sub)acute NSNP were randomly allocated to a patient-tailored treatment (PTT), non-patient-tailored treatment (NPTT) or control group (no intervention). The outcome measures were pain (NPRS), disability (NDI), global perceived effect and satisfaction (GPES), productivity costs, and medical consumption.

Analysis of serial liquid biopsy (LB) samples has been found to be a promising approach for the monitoring of tumor dynamics in the course of therapy for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Currently, somatic mutations are used for tracing the dynamics of the tumor via LB. However, the analysis of the dynamic changes in the molecular signatures such as microsatellite instability (MSI) is not currently used.

Paris saponin VII inhibits triple-negative breast cancer by targeting the MEK/ERK/STMN1 signaling axis.

Phytomedicine

July 2024

College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shandong Second Medical University, No. 7166, Baotong West Street, Weicheng District, Weifang, Shandong Province 261000, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is marked by high variability and currently has limited treatment options, leading to poor patient outcomes; Paris saponin VII (PSⅦ) shows promise for its anti-cancer effects but its role against TNBC is still not well understood.
  • This study utilized single-cell sequencing and gene analysis to identify STMN1 as a crucial biomarker linked to patient prognosis in TNBC and revealed its involvement in the MAPK signaling pathway.
  • Experimental results demonstrated that PSⅦ effectively inhibits TNBC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while promoting cell death, suggesting it works by interacting with MEK protein and disrupting related signaling pathways.

Objectives: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective surgery for end-stage knee osteoarthritis, but chronic postoperative pain and reduced function affect up to 20% of patients who undergo such surgery. There are limited treatment options, but percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is a promising nonopioid treatment option for chronic, persistent postoperative pain. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of a 60-day percutaneous PNS treatment in a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial for treating persistent postoperative pain after TKA.

Purpose: Only a subset of patients with severe emphysema qualify for lung volume reduction surgery or endobronchial valves. We previously demonstrated that stereotactic ablative radiation therapy of lung tumors reduces lung volume in treated lobes by creating localized lung fibrosis. We aimed to determine the safety and secondarily explore the efficacy of stereotactic irradiation for lung volume reduction (SILVR) over 18 months after intervention in patients with severe emphysema.
