A Set of Three Gd Spin Labels with Methanethiosulfonyl Groups for Bioconjugation Covering a Wide Range of EPR Line Widths.

J Org Chem

January 2025

Faculty of Chemistry and Center for Molecular Materials (CM2), Bielefeld University, Universitätsstraße 25, Bielefeld 33615, Germany.

Spin labels based on Gd complexes are important tools for the elucidation of the structure, dynamics and interaction of biomolecules by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Their EPR spectroscopic properties line width and relaxation times influence their performance in a particular application. To be able to apply a complex well-suited for a specific application, a set of Gd complexes with different EPR spectroscopic properties ready-made for spin labeling will be highly useful.

The olfactory bulb receives cholinergic basal forebrain inputs as does the neocortex. With a focus on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), this review article provides an overview and discussion of the following findings: (1) the nAChRs-mediated regulation of regional blood flow in the neocortex and olfactory bulb, (2) the nAChR subtypes that mediate their responses, and (3) their activity in old rats. The activation of the α4β2-like subtype of nAChRs produces vasodilation in the neocortex, and potentiates olfactory bulb vasodilation induced by olfactory stimulation.

Dopamine critically regulates neuronal excitability and promotes synaptic plasticity in the striatum, thereby shaping network connectivity and influencing behavior. These functions establish dopamine as a key neuromodulator, whose release properties have been well-studied in rodents but remain understudied in nonhuman primates. This study aims to close this gap by investigating the properties of dopamine release in macaque striatum and comparing/contrasting them to better-characterized mouse striatum, using ex vivo brain slices from male and female animals.

The role of the gut microbiota and the nicotinate/nicotinamide pathway in rotenone-induced neurotoxicity.

Curr Res Toxicol

December 2024

Institute of Toxicology, College of Preventive Medicine, Army Medical University, Chongqing 400038, China.

Rotenone is a natural compound from plants. It is widely used in pesticides because of highly toxic to insects and fish. However, lots of research has reported that rotenone has neurotoxic effects in humans.
