A convenient method is suggested for synthesis of uracil-1-malonic acid diethyl ester by alkylating 2,4-bis(trimethylsilyl) uracil with bromo-malonic acid diethyl ester. This compound has been shown to hydrolyze with NaOH yielding either uracil or uracil-1-acetic acid, depending on reaction conditions. Similarly, thymine-1-malinic acid diethyl ester and 5-fluorouracil-1,3-dimalonic acid tetraethyl ester were obtained. 1-(1,3-Dihydroxypropyl)uracil has been obtained by reducing uracil-1-malonic acid diethyl ester with NaBH4.

To investigate the impact of genetic factors on wine aroma, wines made from 22 clones of five grape varieties ( L.) were used to analyze the volatile compounds by headspace solid phase microextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometer (HS-SPME-GC-MS) and headspace gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS). Results showed that 52 and 49 aroma compounds were identified from 22 clones of wines by two technologies, respectively.

Phosphonic acid cation exchange materials (PCX) are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) followed by alkyne-azide click-chemistry. ATRP is used to synthesize polymeric chains of diethyl 4-vinylbenzylphosphonate with different chain lengths, which are covalently bonded to the surface of monodisperse polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS/DVB) particles by click-chemistry. The functionalized particles are characterized by FIB-SEM, IR and Schoeniger combustion followed by chromatographic experiments.

Environmental endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) have raised significant concerns due to their potential adverse effects on human health, particularly on the central nervous system (CNS). This study provides a comparative analysis of the effects of 17-alpha ethinyl estradiol (EE2) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) on neuronal cell proliferation and neurotoxicity. Using differentiated SH-SY5Y human neuronal cells, we evaluated cell viability, microRNA (miRNA) regulation, and RNA expression following exposure to subtoxic concentrations of EE2 and DEP.

The widespread occurrence of new and emerging and persistent organic pollutants (NEPs and POPs) in surface water poses a risk to drinking water supply and consequently human health. The aim of this work was to investigate the occurrence and potential transport of 42 target NEPs and POPs (including per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals, pesticides and bisphenols) along the rural and urban environments of three rivers in England. The type and concentrations of pollutants varied between the sampling days and points.

Fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising sensing materials that have received much attention in recent years, in which the organic ligand conformation changes usually lead to variations of their sensing behavior. Based on this, in the present work, perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives with excellent photochemical properties closely related to their conformation and molecule packing fashion were selected as organic linkers to detect sarin simulant diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP). By the coordination interactions with large lanthanide cations through terminal carboxylate groups from the PDI derivative, a series of one-dimensional coordination polymers, named [Ln(PDICl-2COO)(μ-O)(DMF)] (SNNU-112, Ln = Yb/Tb/Sm/Nd/Pr/Gd/Eu/Er/Ce, PDICl-2COOH = ,'-bis(4-benzoic acid)-1,2,6,7-tetrachlorohydrazone-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide) were synthesized.
