Extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCOR) is an emerging technique designed to reduce carbon dioxide (CO) levels in venous blood while enabling lung-protective ventilation or alleviating the work of breathing. Unlike high-flow extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), ECCOR operates at lower blood flows (0.4-1.

Objective: Triple negative breast carcinoma (TNBC) is characterized by the absence of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 receptor expression. Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is a tumor-associated cell surface glycoprotein that is involved in adaptation to hypoxia-induced acidosis and plays a role in cancer progression. The aim of this study was to investigate CA IX expression in TNBC and its relationship with treatment effect.

Background: Carbonic anhydrase type II deficiency (CAII-D) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder characterized by osteopetrosis, renal tubular acidosis, and brain calcifications. Understanding the clinical and radiological features of CAII-D is key to effective management.
Aim: This study aimed to comprehensively analyze and measure intracranial parenchymal calcium score in pediatric CAII-D in relation to the severity of neurological clinical presentation.

This review summarizes the existing information on the concentration of H (pH) in vertebrate retinae and its changes due to various reasons. Special features of H homeostasis that make it different from other ions will be discussed, particularly metabolic production of H and buffering. The transretinal distribution of extracellular H concentration ([H]) and its changes under illumination and other conditions will be described in detail, since [H] is more intensively investigated than intracellular pH.

Hypoxia in tumors contributes to chemotherapy resistance, worsened by acidosis driven by carbonic anhydrases (CA IX and XII). Targeting these enzymes can mitigate acidosis, thus enhancing tumor sensitivity to cytotoxic drugs. Herein, novel 4-(pyrazolyl)benzenesulfonamide ureas () were developed and evaluated for their inhibitory activity against CA IX and XII.
