Forensic gemstone analysis faces many challenges. One of the most critical aspects of gemological research is the classification of a gemstone. The calcium requirements of dairy cows increase dramatically soon after calving, and many cows have subclinical hypocalcemia, adversely affecting health and performance. Traditional laboratory tests for calcium are complex and not easily adapted to rapid point-of-care applications. The objectives were to evaluate a portable iCa testing device, Horiba LAQUAtwin Ca-11C, for measuring ionized calcium (iCa) in the whole blood of dairy cows and to investigate the iCa-to-total-calcium (tCa) ratio in blood collected from dairy cows within 9 days after calving.

Background: Despite the substantial burden of obesity in the United States (US), data on the comprehensive range of comorbidities in different age groups is limited. This study assessed the prevalence of various comorbidities among people diagnosed with obesity (as per ICD-10 diagnosis code) across age cohorts and compared how they differ from people without obesity.
Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed individuals from all four regions (Midwest, Northeast, South, and West) of the US who had continuous insurance coverage from 2018 to 2020, using a large health insurance claims database (Merative™ MarketScan).

Nucleic acid testing is the most effective detection method currently available for the diagnosis of respiratory infectious diseases. However, the conventional real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR technique, which is regarded as the gold standard method for nucleic acid detection, presents significant challenges for implementation in home self-testing and popularization in underdeveloped regions due to its rigorous experimental standards. It is therefore clear that an easy-to-use, miniaturized nucleic acid testing technology and products for nonprofessionals are of great necessity to define the pathogens and assist in controlling disease transmission.

Background: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass may present long-term complications that require revisional surgery or even reversal to normal anatomy. Data on the indications, surgical technique, and outcomes of RYGB reversal remain scarce.
Methods: We identified 48 cases of RYGB reversals with complete 90-day follow-up within a multi-centric international retrospective database of elective secondary bariatric surgery.
