With the growing attention on green starch modification technologies, this study investigates the regulatory effects of alternating magnetic field treatment on the fine structure and functional properties of pregelatinized cassava starch at different treatment times (10 min, 30 min, 50 min).The results demonstrate that magnetic field treatment not only increased starch cracks and compactness but also promoted molecular chain breakage and reorganization, hydrogen bond formation, and starch recrystallization, thereby enhancing molecular order. Moreover, the treated starch exhibited improved solubility and swelling power, alongside a positive impact on the content of slowly digestible starch.

Distance simulation in surgical education.

Surgery

January 2025

Experimental Surgery and Simulation Center, Faculty of Medicine, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile; Department of Digestive Surgery, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile. Electronic address:

Distance and remote simulation have emerged as vital tools in modern surgical education, offering solutions to challenges such as limited operating hours, growing clinical demands, and the need for consistent, high-quality training. This review examines the benefits, limitations, and strategies for implementing sustainable distance simulation, structured around 3 foundational pillars: (1) effective hardware and infrastructure, including simulators and realistic scenarios that enable trainees to develop essential skills; (2) validated training programs grounded in educational theory with a clear focus on skill transfer and predictive validity; and (3) timely access to effective feedback. Distance simulation permits adaptable, scalable training environments, but the addition of remote and deferred feedback has further broadened its impact, helping to overcome the challenges posed by faculty availability and clinician time constraints.

The study investigates the effect of dietary herbal mixture (HM) levels on growing New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits' performance, carcass characteristics, blood biochemicals, and microbiological characteristics from 5 to 13 weeks of age. In this study, 96 New Zealand White rabbits (male and female ratio 1:1) were used, and they were five weeks old. The rabbits were at random allocated into four experimental groups (n = 24 each) comprising 12 replicates, each with two rabbits.

Background: The absence of proper ergonomics in digestive endoscopy, combined with an increasing workload, has contributed to a growing incidence of musculoskeletal complaints among endoscopists. This study aims to assess the frequency of musculoskeletal complaints and their impact on clinical practice among Spanish endoscopists.

Methods: An electronic survey was sent to active members of the Spanish Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SEED) in July 2019.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Adeptrix Corp, Beverly, MA, USA.

Background: The rapidly growing pipeline of target-specific Alzheimer's Disease (AD) therapeutic candidates requires accompanying tests that can identify patients likely to have a beneficial response. The growing importance of multiple pathologies in determining AD progression and treatment response underscores this need. Our work focuses on establishing analytical capability to expand detectable forms of major protein drug targets for AD: Tau, amyloid beta (Ab) and a-Synuclein (aS) proteoforms as potential personalized molecular signatures.
