In contrast to the effects of rapid infusion of gelatin and dextran preparations, no histamine release was observed in 10 human subjects (volunteers) following rapid infusion of hydroxyethyl starch. This was measured by fluorometric histamine determination in venous plasma. Furthermore no clinical symptoms of an allergic or anaphylactoid reaction could be detected in any of the volunteers.

Background: The optimal fluid management strategy for patients undergoing cardiac surgery was controversial regarding fluid volume and intraoperative fluid types. This study aimed to assess the correlation between colloids and crystalloids used for perioperative fluid therapy in cardiac surgery patients and postoperative prognosis.

Methods: The Ovid MEDLINE(R) ALL, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched for eligible studies on fluid management strategies using colloids and crystalloids for cardiac surgery patients published before August 25th, 2023.

Background: Patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery often experience hypotension following general anesthesia induction due to insufficient volume. This study aimed to assess whether pre-rehydration guided by carotid corrected flow time (FTc) could mitigate post-induction hypotension induced by general anesthesia.

Methods: Patients undergoing resection of gastrointestinal tumors were assigned to either the conventional treatment group (Group C) or the fluid treatment group based on FTc (Group F).
