Background: Oral cancer screening programs can aid in the early identification of potentially malignant oral lesions. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Oral Rub and Rinse (ORR) technique as an oral cancer screening tool and to test its potential in detecting genetic alterations in exfoliated cells obtained through ORR.
Methods: The screening programs were conducted in rural Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in Karnataka.

We aimed to assess the impact of splicing variants reported in our laboratory to gain insight into their clinical relevance. A total of 108 consecutive individuals, for whom 113 splicing variants had been reported, were selected for RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq), considering the gene expression in blood. A protocol was developed to perform RNA extraction and sequencing using the same sample (dried blood spots, DBS) provided for the DNA analysis, including library preparation and bioinformatic pipeline analysis.

However, diagnostic material for molecular testing is often represented by cytological samples which are generally scarce and span a wide range of preparation types. Thus, the primary objective is to efficiently manage materials for molecular profiling.

An unsuccessful attempt to directly construct alkaloid iheyamine A from a fascaplysin framework resulted in the discovery of a novel synthetic approach to alkylated δ,γ-biscarboline derivatives. With the easy-to-operate reaction conditions of this protocol, 18 alkylated biscarbolines have been prepared in moderate to good yields. An unexpected domino transformation was proposed to involve a pyridinium ring-opening/aza-electrocyclization/oxidative deformylation sequence.

However, several barriers, such as anti-tumor efficacy, drug toxicity, and safety, remain to be overcome to achieve clinical utility. Prior preclinical studies had generated encouraging data showing promises of cancer metabolism targeting drugs, although most were performed on immune-deficient murine models.
