Association between triglyceride-glucose index and carotid atherosclerosis in Chinese steelworkers: a cross-sectional study.

Sci Rep

January 2025

School of Public Health, North China University of Science and Technology, No. 21 Bohai Avenue, Caofeidian New City, Tangshan City, 063210, Hebei Province, China.

This study aims to explore the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the risk of carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) among Chinese steelworkers. This is a cross-sectional study involving a total of 4,203 Chinese steelworkers. The TyG index was calculated using the formula: TyG = Ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL) / 2].

Background And Purpose: Asymptomatic carotid stenosis (ACS) is an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke and vascular cognitive impairment, affecting cognitive function across multiple domains. This study aimed to explore differences in static and dynamic intrinsic functional connectivity and temporal dynamics between patients with ACS and those without carotid stenosis.

Methods: We recruited 30 patients with unilateral moderate-to-severe (stenosis ≥ 50%) ACS and 30 demographically-matched healthy controls.

Exploring the role of oxidative stress in carotid atherosclerosis: insights from transcriptomic data and single-cell sequencing combined with machine learning.

Biol Direct

January 2025

National Key Laboratory for Innovation and Transformation of Luobing Theory; The Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education, Chinese National Health Commission and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Jinan, China.

Background: Carotid atherosclerotic plaque is the primary cause of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It is closely related to oxidative stress and immune inflammation. This bioinformatic study was conducted to identify key oxidative stress-related genes and key immune cell infiltration involved in the formation, progression, and stabilization of plaques and investigate the relationship between them.

Background: The vascular and cardiometabolic effects of pecans are relatively under-studied.

Objectives: The aim was to examine how substitution of usual snack foods with 57 g/day of pecans affects vascular health, risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases and diet quality, compared to continuing usual intake in individuals at risk for cardiometabolic diseases.

Methods: A 12-week single-blinded, parallel, randomized controlled trial was conducted.

The present study aims to examine the effect of 4 h of continuous sitting on cerebral endothelial function, which is a crucial component of cerebral blood flow regulation. We hypothesized that 4 h of sitting may impair cerebral endothelial function similarly to how it affects lower limb vasculature. Thirteen young, healthy participants were instructed to remain seated for 4 h without moving their lower limbs.
