In 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) re-evaluated Toxic Equivalency factors (TEFs) developed for dioxin-like compounds believed to act through the Ah receptor based on an updated database of relative estimated potency (REP)(REP database). This re-evalution identified the need to develop a consistent approach for dose-response modeling. Further, the WHO Panel discussed the significant heterogeneity of experimental datasets and dataset quality underlying the REPs in the database.

Comparison of the Aroma-Active Compounds and Sensory Characteristics of Different Grades of Light-Flavor Baijiu.

Foods

March 2023

Lab of Brewing Microbiology and Applied Enzymology, School of Biotechnology, Jiangnan University, 1800 Lihu Avenue, Wuxi 214122, China.

This study comprehensively characterized and compared the aroma differences between four different grades of Fenjiu (FJ, the most representative light-flavor Baijiu). Aroma-active compounds were analyzed by liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) coupled with gas chromatography-olfactometry-mass spectrometry (GC-O-MS). A total of 88 aroma-active compounds were identified, and 70 of them were quantified.

Development and validation of a microfluidic multiplex immunoassay for the determination of levels and avidity of serum antibodies to tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis antigens.

J Immunol Methods

April 2022

PharmAbs, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium; Clinical and Diagnostic Immunology, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium; Laboratory Medicine, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. Electronic address:

A multiplex assay for the quantitation of immunoglobulin G (IgG) serum antibodies directed against Clostridium tetani toxin (TT), Corynebacterium diphtheriae toxoid (DTxd), and the Bordetella pertussis antigens pertussis toxin (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) and pertactin (Prn) was developed on an Evalution® platform to enhance the evaluation of the specific antibody response towards protein antigens in suspected humoral immunodeficiencies. Evalution® is a microfluidic and microparticle-based platform with the possibility to analyse single samples and to perform real-time kinetic measurements of antibody binding. All individual antigens were covalently linked to the carboxylated microparticles after which samples and fluorescently labelled detection antibodies were flowed over the microparticles in the microfluidic channels of the assay cartridges of the system.

Background: There is a lack of evidence-based substance use disorder treatment and services targeting returning inmates. Substance Use Programming for Person-Oriented Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) is a community-driven, recovery-oriented approach to substance abuse care which has the potential to address this service gap. SUPPORT is modeled after Indiana's Access to Recovery program, which was closed due to lack of federal support despite positive improvements in clients' recovery outcomes.
