Shared Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Genetic Factors in Early Menarche and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

J Neurosci

March 2025

Discipline of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Sao Paulo Medical School, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo 01246 903, Brazil

Early age at menarche (early AAM) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are reproductive and metabolic disorders with overlapping pathophysiological and genetic features. Epidemiological studies suggest a link between these two conditions, both of which are characterized by dysregulation of the neuroendocrine pathways that control pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion, thus affecting gonadotropin release, particularly luteinizing hormone secretion. A common pathophysiology involving positive energy balance and abnormal metabolic status is evident in both disorders.

Objectives: Familial Male-Limited Precocious Puberty (FMPP) is a rare autosomal-dominant genetic condition with sexual dimorphism. We aim to summarize the clinical characteristics of FMPP patients and emphasize the use of a therapeutic regimen involving letrozole, spironolactone, and GnRHa, to augment clinician's understanding of the disease, thus enhancing patient care.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 10 FMPP patients and conducted follow-up assessments of adult height in six patients.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) treatment on final height outcomes in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP) from the start of treatment to their postmenarche visit.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 200 girls with idiopathic CPP who received GnRHa therapy, focusing on auxological and clinical outcomes at treatment initiation, treatment completion, and the last, postmenarche visit.

Results: The mean chronological age (CA) at GnRHa treatment initiation was 8.

Purpose: There is growing global concern about the shift to earlier onset of puberty among girls; however, the prevalences of precocious and normal variant puberty among Thai girls are uncertain. We conducted a study at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok from 2018 to 2022 (amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic) to investigate the prevalence, characteristics, and treatment of early puberty in a large cohort of Thai girls.

Methods: The medical records of 583 girls who had been evaluated for early puberty were reviewed.

Aspartame Consumption Linked to Delayed Puberty and Mitochondrial Dysfunction: Evidence from Human and Animal Studies.

J Nutr Biochem

March 2025

School of Nutrition and Health Sciences, College of Nutrition, Taipei Medical University, 250 Wuxing Street, Taipei, 110, Taiwan. Electronic address:

This study investigates the impact of aspartame consumption on pubertal timing in females. The research employs both human and rat models to explore underlying mechanisms. In the Taiwan Pubertal Longitudinal Study (2018-2022), 858 girls aged 6-12 were assessed for aspartame intake and puberty outcomes.
