Injection of mice with two interferon inducers, Newcastle disease virus or statolon, 20 hours after inoculation with Plasmodium berghei sporozoites, prevented or delayed the development of detectable malarial parasitemia and death.

Inflammatory skin diseases comprise a group of skin conditions characterized by damage to skin function due to overactive immune responses. These disorders not only impair the barrier function of the skin but also deteriorate the quality of life and increase the risk of psychiatric issues. Here, a low-modulus phosphatidylserine-exposing microvesicle (deformed PSV, D-PSV) was produced, characterized, and evaluated for its potential therapeutic function against skin diseases.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one of the most important etiologies of acute respiratory infections that cause bronchiolitis in children under 5 years of age. Treatments are expensive, no vaccine is available, and this is an important cause of hospitalization. Costimulatory molecules have been reported to be good inducers of antiviral type 1 immune response.

Problem: Aging alters immune function in women and can lead increased risk of infections, particularly in the female reproductive tract (FRT).
Method Of Study: To determine how aging affects innate immune responses in the cervical stroma of the FRT, we isolated endocervical (CX) and ectocervical (ECX) stromal fibroblasts and determine if their expression of multiple pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and responses to viral stimulation varied with menopause and age.
Results: Constitutive expression of most PRRs did not vary with age or menopausal status in either cell type.

Unlabelled: Introduction Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a widespread infection in intensive care. As culture-based diagnostic techniques take several days before positivity and leaks of sensitivity. (1,3)-β-D-glucan (BDG) was proposed as a mycological criterion for IC diagnosis in selected patients.

The lack of a robust system to reproducibly propagate HRV-C, a family of viruses refractory to cultivation in standard cell lines, has substantially hindered our understanding of this common respiratory pathogen. We sought to develop an organoid-based system to reproducibly propagate HRV-C, and characterize virus-host interaction using respiratory organoids. We demonstrate that airway organoids sustain serial virus passage with the aid of CYT387-mediated immunosuppression, whereas nasal organoids that more closely simulate the upper airway achieve this without any intervention.
