Background: To estimate a correlation between change in lung ultrasound aeration score (LUSS) and mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study in which lung ultrasound, the partial pressure of arterial oxygen to fraction of inspired oxygen ratio (PaO/FiO ratio), and static lung compliance were performed for five consecutive days since the diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia (day 1-5) in a 20-bed multidisciplinary intensive care unit in at a tertiary care academic institute in Northern India. A hundred and seventeen ventilated patients were studied for the first 5 days after ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) development.

Respiratory infection by influenza A virus (IAV) is known to cause systemic inflammation, neuroinflammation, and cognitive impairment. We previously found that experimental infection with IAV affected oligodendrocyte homeostasis, which was associated with altered expression of genes involved in myelin maintenance as well as the lipidome. In this study, we sought to determine if clemastine, an antihistamine with myelin promoting properties, could reverse the effects of IAV on oligodendrocyte (OL) specific genes, as well as mitigate infection-induced cognitive impairment.

Lifetime Risks for Lung Cancer due to Occupational Radon Exposure: A Systematic Analysis of Estimation Components.

Radiat Res

January 2025

Federal Office for Radiation Protection, Ingolstädter Landstrasse 1, 85764 Neuherberg, Germany.

Lifetime risk estimates play a key role in many areas of radiation research. Here, the focus is on the lifetime excess absolute risk (LEAR) for dying from lung cancer due to occupational radon exposure based on uranium miners cohort studies. The major components in estimating LEAR were systematically varied to investigate the variability and uncertainties of results.
