Objectives: Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) now joins the ranks of CT and MRI for noninvasive diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). CEUS LI-RADS provides greater than 95% specificity for diagnosis within LR-5. Unlike CT/MRI, CEUS is nodule based.

A 40-year-old man with a medical history of hepatitis B presented with abdominal distention and leg swelling. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed cirrhosis and a large mass extending from the liver into the inferior vena cava and extending into the right atrium. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a large right atrial mass extending from the inferior vena cava with possible attachment to the interatrial septum.

High-sensitivity total-body PET enables faster scans, lower doses, and dynamic multiorgan imaging. However, the higher system cost of a scanner with a long axial field of view (AFOV) hinders its wider application. This paper investigates the impact on the lesion quantification and detectability of cost-effective total-body PET sparse designs.

Evaluation of a Deep Learning Denoising Algorithm for Dose Reduction in Whole-Body Photon-Counting CT Imaging: A Cadaveric Study.

Acad Radiol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, University Hospital Tuebingen, Hoppe-Seyler-Str. 3, 72076 Tuebingen, Germany (R.D., J.M.B., B.S., J.M., S.G., P.K., S.W., J.H., K.N., S.A., A.B.).

Rationale And Objectives: Photon Counting CT (PCCT) offers advanced imaging capabilities with potential for substantial radiation dose reduction; however, achieving this without compromising image quality remains a challenge due to increased noise at lower doses. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a deep learning (DL)-based denoising algorithm in maintaining diagnostic image quality in whole-body PCCT imaging at reduced radiation levels, using real intraindividual cadaveric scans.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four cadaveric human bodies underwent whole-body CT scans on a PCCT scanner (NAEOTOM Alpha, Siemens Healthineers) at four different dose levels (100%, 50%, 25%, and 10% mAs).

Multiple liver metastases of unknown origin: A case report.

World J Gastrointest Oncol

January 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, Peking University First Hospital, Beijing 100034, China.

Background: The liver is the most common site of digestive system tumor metastasis, but not all liver metastases can be traced back to the primary lesions. Although it is unusual, syphilis can impact the liver, manifesting as syphilitic hepatitis with inflammatory nodules, which might be misdiagnosed as metastasis.

Case Summary: This case report involves a 46-year-old female who developed right upper abdominal pain and intermittent low fever that persisted for more than three months.
