Pyrogenic carbons (PCs), with varying structures depending on the materials and thermal treatment conditions, have been extensively used to enhance anaerobic digestion by mediating electron transfer. However, the underlying mechanism has yet to be explored. Herein, the redirection and enhancement of the direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) pathway were evidenced, along with the upregulated electrochemical properties and structural proteins in the methanogenic consortia.

Sorafenib (Sora) is a first-line treatment for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It can significantly improve the survival rate of patients with advanced HCC, but it is prone to drug resistance during treatment, so the therapeutic effect is extremely limited. Here, we demonstrate that an elevated expression of protein kinase p38γ in hepatocellular carcinoma cells diminishes the tumor cells' sensitivity to Sora.

Conventional kinesin protein is a prototypical biological molecular motor that can step processively on microtubules towards the plus end by hydrolyzing ATP molecules, performing the biological function of intracellular transports. An important characteristic of the kinesin is the load dependence of its velocity, which is usually measured by using the single molecule optical trapping method with a large-sized bead attached to the motor stalk. Puzzlingly, even for the same kinesin, some experiments showed that the velocity is nearly independent of the forward load whereas others showed that the velocity decreases evidently with the increase in the magnitude of the forward load.
