Background: The heart comprises many types of cells such as cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells (ECs), fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, pericytes, and blood cells. Every cell type responds to various stressors (eg, hemodynamic overload and ischemia) and changes its properties and interrelationships among cells. To date, heart failure research has focused mainly on cardiomyocytes; however, other types of cells and their cell-to-cell interactions might also be important in the pathogenesis of heart failure.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic changes and interrelationships between leukocyte components and inflammatory markers in the early stages and sepsis stage in severe burns, and explore their potential clinical significance.
Methods: This is a 5-year retrospective cohort study involving 107 patients with severe burns (the total body surface area of burn (TBSA) > 50%), in which, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, monocyte count, the ratio of the product of monocyte and lymphocyte count to neutrophil count (MLPN), procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), capillary leakage index (CLI) and creatinine (Scr) were investigated.
Results: Within one week after injury, the leukocyte components and MLPN showed a V-shaped change, with a peak immediately after injury and a trough on the 4th or 5th day after injury, while CRP showed a continuous upward trend, and the leukocyte compositions of all patients were negatively correlated with CRP values.

Arterial hypertension is a common condition worldwide and an important risk factor for cardio- and cerebrovascular events, renal diseases, as well as microvascular eye diseases. Established hypertension leads to the chronic vasoconstriction of small arteries as well as to a decreased lumen diameter and the thickening of the arterial media or wall with a consequent increased media-to-lumen ratio (MLR) or wall-to-lumen ratio (WLR). This process, defined as vascular remodeling, was firstly demonstrated in small resistance arteries isolated from subcutaneous biopsies and measured by micromyography, and this is still considered the gold-standard method for the assessment of structural alterations in small resistance arteries; however, microvascular remodeling seems to represent a generalized phenomenon.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the interrelationship between time spent underwater (UW), movement frequency and accompanying blood acid base balance response. Elite artistic swimmers (n = 6) participated in the investigation and were all familiar with the testing procedures. All athletes completed the same choreographed artistic swimming routine.

Purpose: To evaluate the interrelationship between macular sensitivity and retinal perfusion density (PD) in eyes with myopic macular degeneration (MMD).
Methods: One hundred and thirty-eight highly myopic eyes from 82 adult participants were recruited. Macular sensitivity was evaluated using the Microperimeter MP-3.
