Introduction: Bacterial infection, a complex wound microenvironment, and a persistent inflammatory response in acute wounds can result in delayed healing and abnormal scar formation, thereby compromising the normal function and aesthetic appearance of skin tissue. This issue represents one of the most challenging problems in clinical practice. This study aims to develop a hydrogel dressing specifically designed for the treatment of acute wounds, providing immediate and effective protection for the affected areas.

Antibiotics are central to managing airway infections in cystic fibrosis (CF), yet current treatments often fail due to the presence of biofilms, settling down the need for seeking therapies targeting biofilms. This study aimed to investigate the antibiofilm activity of aspartic acid and its potential as an adjuvant to tobramycin against biofilms formed by mucoid and small colony variant (SCV) tobramycin tolerant strain. We assessed the effect of aspartic acid on both surface-attached and suspended biofilms within CF artificial mucus and investigated the synergistic impact of combining it with non-lethal tobramycin concentrations.

Disparities in access to oncology medicines in European Union (EU) member states can impact patient outcomes profoundly, with availability and timely access varying significantly across and within member states. This paper discusses the intersection of the new European Health Technology Assessment Regulation (HTAR), the provisions of the proposed pharmaceutical legislation and their potential impacts on access to oncology medicines across EU member states. The HTAR, seeking to standardise the clinical evaluation of new medicines, has the potential to streamline the evaluation process but also risks oversimplifying diverse national healthcare needs.

Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) have a substantial effect on overall disease management, health system costs, and patient outcomes. However, exacerbations are often underdiagnosed or recognized with great delay due to several factors such as patients' inability to differentiate between acute episodes and symptom fluctuations, delays in seeking medical assistance, and disparities in dyspnea perception. Self-management intervention plans, telehealth and smartphone-based programs provide educational material, counseling, virtual hospitals and telerehabilitation, and help COPD patients to identify exacerbations early.
