Health and nutrition of individuals are tied to reproductive success, which determines population viability. Environmental variability and anthropogenic effects can affect the health and nutrition of a species leading to reproductive repercussions which can hinder recovery of endangered populations. Indices of health and nutrition were examined for an imperiled species, delta smelt, Hypomesus transpacificus, in relation to their reproductive status to evaluate the effects of hydrologic conditions in the San Francisco Estuary and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Chronic liver disease (CLD) has massive systemic repercussions including major impacts on the body's immune system. Abnormalities in phenotype, function and numbers of various immune cell subsets have been established by a large number of clinical and pre-clinical studies. The loss of essential immune functions renders CLD-patients exceptionally susceptible to bacterial and viral infections and also impairs the efficacy of vaccination.

Myopic eye growth induces mechanical stretch, which can lead to structural and functional retinal alterations. Here, we investigated the effect of lens-induced myopic growth on the distribution of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression and intensity, and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (ppRNFL) thickness in common marmosets () induced with myopia continuously for six months, using immunohistochemistry and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. We also explored the relationship between cellular structural parameters and the photopic negative response (PhNR) using full-field electroretinography.

Stress occurs as a reaction to mental and emotional pressure, anxiety, or scarring. Chronic stress is defined as constant submission to these moments. It can affect several body systems, increase blood pressure, and weaken immunity, thereby interfering with physiological health processes.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) poses a major global health challenge, leading to serious repercussions for those affected and imposing considerable financial strains on families and healthcare systems. RNA methylation, especially 5-methylcytosine (mC), plays a crucial role as an epigenetic modification in regulating RNA at the level of post-transcriptional regulation. However, the impact of TBI on the mC methylation profile of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) remains unexplored.
