Background: Trends of stoma creation at index surgery for Crohn's disease (CD) in the biologics era has not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to assess the impact of increasing biologics use on stoma rates at index surgery of CD, as well as identifying risk factors for the creation and nonreversal of CD-related stoma.
Methods: In this single-center retrospective analysis, consecutive CD patients who underwent index bowel surgery from 2007 to 2021 were reviewed.

This study explores the impact of visually similar flanking stimuli on central target words using the Flanking Letter Lexical Decision (FLLD) task. Specifically, we investigated whether visual similarity effects can explain orthographic relatedness effects observed in previous FLLD tasks. By employing non-reversal mirror letters as visual flankers, we compared their influence on response times to traditional orthographic-related and orthographic-unrelated conditions.

Background: Hartmann's procedure (sigmoid resection with end colostomy) is a commonly performed emergency procedure for diseases of the sigmoid colon.
Aim: To determine the proportion of patients undergoing Hartmann's reversal (restoration of GI continuity) following Hartmann's procedure, the clinical and demographic factors associated with reversal, and the reasons for non-reversal.
Method: This is a single center, retrospective audit of patients undergoing Hartmann's procedure between June 2011 and May 2020.

Background/aim: To investigate the factors related to non-reversal of ostomy after cytoreductive surgery in ovarian cancer. In many women with ovarian cancer, transitory ostomies are performed to limit the consequences of anastomotic leak. Although intended to be temporary, a proportion of these ostomies might never be reversed.

DNA methylation is instrumental in vertebrate sex reversal. However, the mechanism of DNA methylation regulation regarding sex reversal in invertebrates is unclear. In this study, we used whole genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) to map single-base resolution methylation profiles of the Pacific oyster, including female-to-male (FMa-to-FMb) and male-to-female (MFa-to-MFb) sex reversal, as well as sex non-reversed males and females (MMa-to-MMb and FFa-to-FFb).
