Introduction: Salmonella, a foodborne zoonotic pathogen, is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in animals and humans globally. With the prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains, Salmonellosis has become a formidable challenge. Host-directed therapy (HDT) has recently emerged as a promising anti-infective approach for treating intracellular bacterial infections.

Background: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from patients across different stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) progression and stimulated ex vivo to develop biomarkers for predicting PD progression.
Method: PBMCs obtained at one time-point from patients with moderate stage PD (>5 years after diagnosis) (n = 30), early stage PD (<5 years after diagnosis) (n = 27), prodromal PD (rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder patients) (n = 14), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 9) were isolated from whole blood and cryopreserved. Samples were thawed, then pan-monocytes and T-cell populations were isolated from PBMCs and subjected to treatment with vehicle or IFN-γ.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with complex pathophysiology including synaptic dysregulation, compromised neurotrophic signaling, deficits in autophagic flux and neuroinflammation). Skeletal muscle regulates many brain functions relevant to aging, by activating the muscle-to-brain axis through the secretion of skeletal muscle originating factors (myokines) with cellular-modifying, neuro and geroprotective properties. Our group developed transgenic mice that overexpress the skeletal muscle human Transcription Factor EB (TFEB), a master regulator of lysosomal-to-nucleus signaling, resulting in enhanced proteostasis and neuroprotection in a Tau mouse model.

Method: The procedure consists of bone marrow aspiration, cell separation using an FDA cleared class 2 device, and intravenous and intranasal administration of the stem cell fraction.

ConspectusThe emergence of two-dimensional (2D) materials, such as graphene, transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), has sparked significant interest due to their unique physicochemical, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. Furthermore, their atomically thin nature enables mechanical flexibility, high sensitivity, and simple integration onto flexible substrates, such as paper and plastic. The surface chemistry of a nanomaterial determines many of its properties, such as its chemical and catalytic activity.
