Background: Disease cyclicity, a composite measure of unpredictable and daily fluctuations of symptoms, strongly predicts quality-of-life (QoL) impairment.

Objective: To explore the mechanisms by which cyclicity impacts QoL.

Methods: 1:1 semi-structured interviews were conducted and qualitatively analyzed using grounded theory.

Diurnal and daily fluctuations in levels of the urinary oxidative stress marker 8-hydroxyguanosine in spot urine samples.

Genes Environ

January 2025

Department of Environmental Oncology, Institute of Industrial Ecological Sciences, University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan, 1-1 Iseigaoka, Yahatanishi-ku, Kitakyushu, 807-8555, Japan.

Background: Urinary 8-hydroxyguanosine (8-OHGuo) levels serve as a biomarker for oxidative stress and hydroxyl radical-induced RNA damage. Evaluating the diurnal and daily fluctuations in urinary 8-OHGuo excretion levels is essential for understanding its implications. However, research in this area remains limited.

The distribution and abundance of ectothermic mosquitoes are strongly affected by temperature, but mechanisms remain unexplored. We describe the effect of temperature on the transcriptome of Anopheles stephensi, an invasive vector of human malaria. Adult females were maintained across a range of mean temperatures (20 °C, 24 °C and 28 °C), with daily fluctuations of +5 °C and -4 °C at each mean temperature.

Mood variation under dual regulation of circadian clock and light.

Chronobiol Int

January 2025

Laboratory of Braintime, Graduate Institute of Mind, Brain and Consciousness (GIMBC), Taipei Medical University, Taipei, Taiwan.

The intricate relationship between circadian rhythms and mood is well-established. Disturbances in circadian rhythms and sleep often precede the development of mood disorders, such as major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD), and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Two primary factors, intrinsic circadian clocks and light, drive the natural fluctuations in mood throughout the day, mirroring the patterns of sleepiness and wakefulness.

Investigating surface loading effect on seasonal crustal deformation observed by GNSS in Hong Kong.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Wetland and Watershed Research Ministry of Education, Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang, 330022, China.

Surface loading effects related to atmospheric, hydrological, non-tidal ocean, are one of the principal sources of the seasonal oscillations in GNSS time series, and it should be taken into account for improving GNSS accuracy. In this study, the daily vertical time series of 9 GNSS stations at Hong Kong was used to investigate the surface loading (sum of atmospheric loading, hydrological loading, non-tidal ocean loading (AHNL)) contributors of seasonal oscillations in GNSS observations. This paper reveals a correlation between the AHNL deformation and the GNSS vertical time series, with an average correlation coefficient of 0.
