Kinetic and structural investigation of the 4-allyl syringol oxidase from Streptomyces cavernae.

4-Phenol oxidases are proposed to be involved in the utilization of lignin-derived aromatic compounds. While enzymes with selectivity towards 4-hydroxyphenyl and guaiacyl motifs are well described, we identified the first syringyl-specific oxidase from Streptomyces cavernae (Sc4ASO) only very recently. Here, in-depth studies were conducted to unravel the molecular origins of the outstanding selectivity of Sc4ASO.

The natural products combretastatins A-1 and A-4 are potent antimitotic and vascular-disrupting agents through their binding at the colchicine site in tubulin. However, these compounds suffer from a low water solubility and a tendency to isomerize to the inactive stilbenes. In this study, we have prepared a series of 18 -restricted triazole analogues of combretastatin A-4 (CA-4), maintaining, in all cases, the 3,4,5-trimethoxy phenyl ring A, with the aim of investigating the substitution pattern on the B-ring in a systematic way.

Microwave-assisted extraction of pectin from Dillenia indica (DI) fruit was optimized using Box-Behnken design to maximize yield and quality. Parameters such as solid:solvent (1:10-1:30), microwave power (200-600 W), and extraction time (4-10 min) were varied to determine the optimal conditions. Through experimentation, the optimized extraction parameters were identified as 1:23.

An optimized microwave-assisted low methoxyl pectin extraction procedure was described. Six task specific deep eutectic solvents (TDES) were used in the extraction of pectin from bilimbi (LMABP) and pomelo peels (LMCGP). Response surface methodology-based optimization of the parameters like feed-to-solvent ratio, extraction time, and microwave power level results in 72.

Novel insights into released hydrochar particle derived from typical high nitrogen waste biomass: Special properties, microstructure and formation mechanism.

Waste Manag

February 2025

Key Laboratory of Agro-Environment in Downstream of Yangtze Plain/Scientific Observing and Experimental Station of Arable Land Conservation (Jiangsu), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nanjing 210014, China. Article Synopsis
  • Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) transforms waste biomass, particularly high nitrogen feedstocks like kitchen garbage and blue-green algae, into valuable resources, but the characteristics of small hydrochar particles remain underexplored.
  • Hydrochar particles show unique properties such as poor porosity, moderate pH, negative charge, and high hydrophobicity, which differ from the original hydrochar and secondary char derived from simpler biomasses.
  • The study identifies complex formation mechanisms through various chemical reactions in the hydrochar microparticles, highlighting their potential as soil fertilizers and decontaminants while emphasizing that effectiveness is influenced by HTC temperature and type of biomass used.
