Acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction may result from chronic infection, lacrimal stones, anatomical variations such as aberrant ethmoid cells, facial fractures, or complications following nasal surgery. In Korea, there has been no reported case of secondary nasolacrimal duct obstruction due to a retention cyst in the lacrimal sac. Recently, the authors encountered a 65-year-old female patient who presented with epiphora, was diagnosed with a lacrimal sac retention cyst, and was successfully treated with endoscopic marsupialization.

Dry eye, a common ocular surface disease associated with tear film instability and corneal impairment, is frequently accompanied by ocular discomfort and pain. Recent research has shown that corneal nerve dysfunction may play a role in certain pathologies of dry eye; however, the details remain unclear. To clarify the aberration in corneal nerves underlying sensory abnormalities, in addition to corneal impairment in dry eye, we examined the morphological alterations of nerve fibers in the corneas excised from guinea pigs with dry eye, where the lacrimal glands were surgically excised.

Purpose: To compare corneal higher order aberrations (HOAs) in patients with epiphora caused by unilateral primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) and their fellow eyes.

Methods: A total of 122 eyes of 61 patients with unilateral PANDO were included. Affected eyes were named as group 1 and contralateral eyes as group 2.

The incidence of facial nerve paralysis is approximately 30 per 100,000 persons annually. Although it is often idiopathic, as in Bell's palsy, it can also result from infections, trauma, or neoplasms. Facial nerve paralysis may present with partial or total facial paresis, lagophthalmos, denervation of the lacrimal gland, and other ocular abnormalities.

Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterized by severe dryness of mucosal surfaces, particularly the mouth and eyes; fatigue; and chronic pain. Chronic inflammation of the salivary and lacrimal glands, auto-antibody formation, and extra-glandular manifestations occur in subsets of patients with SjD. An aberrant expression of long, non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been described in many autoimmune diseases, including SjD.
