Effectiveness of psychological interventions in reducing post-traumatic stress among post-myocardial infarction patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Eur J Cardiovasc Nurs

January 2025

Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Level 5, Centre for Translational Medicine, Block MD 6, 14 Medical Drive, Singapore 117599, Singapore.

Aims: Myocardial infarction (MI) can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which frequently occurs with anxiety and depression, impairing daily functioning and increasing the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. While psychological interventions have shown promise in reducing anxiety and depression, their effectiveness for PTSD in post-MI patients remains unexplored. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions on PTSD, anxiety, and depression in post-MI patients.

Microbiological findings in a cohort of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 and venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Med Klin Intensivmed Notfmed

January 2025

Interdisciplinary Medical Intensive Care, Medical Center-University of Freiburg, Faculty of Medicine, University of Freiburg, Hugstetter Straße 55, 79106, Freiburg, Germany.

Background: Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) is an established support option for patients with very severe respiratory failure and played an important role during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Bacteria and fungi can lead to severe infectious complications in critically ill patients. The aim of this study was to describe the microbiological spectrum of bacteria and fungi detected in patients with COVID-19-associated respiratory failure supported with VV ECMO in our center.

Objectives: To investigate the long-term impact of superselective renal artery embolization (SRAE) on renal function in cases of severe post-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) haemorrhage, and to identify the factors associated with the long-term outcome of renal function.

Methods: Patients treated with SRAE for post-PCNL hemorrhage between September 2016 and September 2021 were included. Patients' demographic and clinical data were recorded.

From smog to scarred hearts: unmasking the detrimental impact of air pollution on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Cell Mol Life Sci

January 2025

Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training Center, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, 50200, Thailand.

Air pollution is a global environmental health hazard associated with elevated cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Emerging evidence suggests that exposure to various air pollutants, specifically particulate matter (PM), ultrafine particulate matter (UFPM), and diesel exhaust particles, may exacerbate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. PM exposure can directly impair cardiomyocyte survival under ischemic conditions by inducing inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and dysregulation of non-coding RNAs.
