Background: Xanthones are dubbed as putative lead-like molecules for cancer drug design and discovery. This study was aimed at the synthesis, characterization, and target fishing of novel xanthone derivatives.

Methods: The products of reactions of xanthydrol with urea, thiourea, and thiosemicarbazide reacted with α-haloketones to prepare the thiazolone compounds.

Planar solid phase extraction for chlorinated paraffin analysis - irradiation chamber for standardized derivatization on planar thin-layers.

J Chromatogr A

January 2025

Institute of Food Chemistry, Department of Food Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry, University of Hohenheim, Garbenstraße 28, 70599 Stuttgart, Germany. Electronic address:

As an established analytical method, high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) offers powerful capabilities. This study focused on its application to analyze chlorinated paraffins (CP) by planar solid phase extraction (pSPE). Based on previous work, an irradiation chamber was developed to investigate the derivatization process on planar thin-layers and ensure a robust and reproducible analysis.

The oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction is often used for the study of rotating spiral waves that are responsible for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. In this work, we explore the influence of a concentration gradient on the dynamics of spiral waves in the BZ-reaction system. Using ion-exchange resin beads, we introduce a gradient of hydrogen ions in a thin layer of BZ gel hosting a spiral wave.

The resistivity of the silica SBA-15 type can be significantly improved by forming a thin layer of carbon on the pore surface. This is possible through the carbonization reaction of a surfactant used as a structure-directing agent in the synthesis of mesostructured silica materials. The synthesis of this type of silica-carbon composite (SBA-C) is based on the use of sulfuric acid to create a carbon layer from surfactant molecules encapsulated in silica mesopores.

Background: Objectives were to determine the prevalence/incidence of HPV-related dysplasia and clearance/acquisition rates of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes in genital mucosa of women-LHIV and oropharyngeal and anal mucosa of PLHIV and to evaluate factors related to HR-HPV infection in oropharyngeal mucosa at 12-months.

Material And Methods: Prospective, longitudinal study with 12-month follow-up, enrolled PLHIV between December 2022 and April 2023. At baseline and 12-months, HIV-related clinical and analytical variables were recorded, oropharyngeal mucosa exudates were taken for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies for HPV and other sexually transmitted infections, while anal and female genital samples were self-sampled for HPV detection and genotyping by PCR and thin-layer cytology.
