This study explores the impact of syngas, a mixture of CO (carbon monoxide), CO (carbon dioxide) and H (hydrogen), composition on production of ethanol and other metabolites by using various Clostridia. Clostridium carboxidivorans, Clostridium ljungdahlii, and Clostridium ragsdalei were examined to convert CO-rich syngas into ethanol and other valuable products, and C. carboxidivorans was shown to produce maximum ethanol at a high initial CO concentration (80% CO: 10% CO: 10% H).

Ecological restoration is a promising approach to alleviate eutrophication. High lipid producing (HLP) tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is a potential biofuel crop that produces an excess of 30% dry weight as lipid bodies in the form of triacylglycerol. While using HLP tobacco as a sustainable fuel source is promising, it has not yet been tested for its tolerance to warmer environments that are expected in the near future as a result of climate change. We found that HLP tobacco had reduced stomatal conductance, which results in increased leaf temperatures up to 1.
