The q-RASPR approach for predicting the property and fate of persistent organic pollutants.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri IRCCS, via Mario Negri 2, Milano, 20156, Italy.

This study presents a quantitative read-across structure-property relationship (q-RASPR) approach that integrates the chemical similarity information used in read-across with traditional quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models. This novel framework is applied to predict the physicochemical properties and environmental behaviors of persistent organic pollutants, specifically polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). By utilizing a curated dataset and incorporating similarity-based descriptors, the q-RASPR approach improves the accuracy of predictions, particularly for compounds with limited experimental data.

The increasing number of contaminants released into the environment necessitates innovative strategies for their detection and identification, particularly in complex environmental matrices like hospital wastewater. Hospital effluents contain both natural and synthetic hormones that might significantly contribute to endocrine disruption in aquatic ecosystems. In this study, HT-EDA has been implemented to identify the main effect-drivers (testosterone, androsterone and norgestrel) from hospital effluent using microplate fractionation, the AR-CALUX bioassay and an efficient data processing workflow.

Heavy Metals Alter the Anti-cancer Potency of Medicinal Plants.

Anticancer Agents Med Chem

January 2025

Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, 110062, India.

This review investigates the outcome of heavy metal contamination on the anti-cancer properties of medicinal plants. Heavy metal pollution is a significant environmental concern globally, often found in soil and water due to industrial activities. Therapeutic plants are recognized because of their therapeutic attributes and their ability to absorbing these contaminants.

Impurity detection of premium green tea based on improved lightweight deep learning model.

Food Res Int

January 2025

Tea Research Institute of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jinan 250100, China; College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Shihezi University, Shihezi 832000, China. Electronic address:

Tea may be mixed with impurities during picking and processing, which can lower their quality. At present, the sorting of impurities in premium green tea mainly relies on manual labor, which is inefficient. In response to the technical challenges in this industry, this article uses deep learning technology to detect impurities in premium green tea.

Microplastic pollution has become a pervasive environmental challenge due to their global distribution and putatively harmful effects on organisms at different ecotoxicological endpoints. However, in some cases, the effects of microplastics are similar to, or even less harmful than those of naturally occurring particles. Bioplastics, developed as a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastics, still have unclear effects compared with oil-based microplastics.
