Aim: Disease misdiagnosis is more likely if standardised diagnostic criteria are not used. This study systematically examined the effect on diagnosing dry eye disease (DED), when tests for evaluating tear film homeostasis were included/excluded from a multi-test protocol.
Method: For 1427 participants across five sites, data for the full suite of diagnostic tests defined in the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society Dry Eye Workshop II (TFOS DEWS II) Diagnostic Methodology report algorithm were evaluated; diagnostic sensitivity was calculated when individual signs were removed, and when different combinations of signs were required.

Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an active matrix metalloproteinase-8 (aMMP-8) point-of-care oral rinse test (POC-ORT) for predicting periodontitis in treatment-naïve subjects in two independent studies and update a recent meta-analysis.
Methods: The aMMP-8 POC-ORT index test was performed in a representative population in Hong Kong, China, and a consecutive convenience sample in Shanghai, China. The reference standard was the 2017 World Workshop classification of periodontal diseases.

In cervical cancer screening programs, the detection of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) is now widely implemented on physician-collected samples and has expanded to include self-collected samples. The use of a cellularity control (CC) is needed to reduce false-negative HPV results. An external mRNA CC for the HPV APTIMA® assay was assessed for its analytical performance and the results were compared with both cervix cytobrush samples taken by physicians and self-collected vaginal samples from 148 women.
