Dual physiological responsive structural color hydrogel particles for wound repair.

Bioact Mater

April 2025

Joint Centre of Translational Medicine, Wenzhou Key Laboratory of Interdiscipline and Translational Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China.

Hydrogel-based patches have demonstrated their values in diabetic wounds repair, particularly those intelligent dressings with continuous repair promoting and monitoring capabilities. Here, we propose a type of dual physiological responsive structural color particles for wound repair. The particles are composed of a hyaluronic acid methacryloyl (HAMA)-sodium alginate (Alg) inverse opal scaffold, filled with oxidized dextran (ODex)/quaternized chitosan (QCS) hydrogel.

The Notch intracellular domain (NICD) regulates gene expression during development and homeostasis in a transcription factor complex that binds DNA either as monomer, or cooperatively as dimers. Mice expressing Notch dimerization-deficient (NDD) alleles of Notch1 and Notch2 have defects in multiple tissues that are sensitized to environmental insults. Here, we report that cardiac phenotypes and DSS (Dextran Sodium Sulfate) sensitivity in NDD mice can be ameliorated by housing mice under hypo-allergenic conditions (food/bedding).

This study introduces a novel bilayer wound dressing that integrates a quaternized chitosan-polyacrylic acid (QCs-PAA) sponge as the top layer with electrospun nanofibers containing curcumin as the bottom layer. For the first time, QCs and PAA were combined in an 80:20 ratio through freeze-drying to form a porous sponge layer with ideal structural properties, including 83 ± 6 % porosity and pore diameters of 290 ± 12.5 μm.

Guided Multispectral Optoacoustic Tomography for 3D Imaging of the Murine Colon.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, University Hospital Erlangen, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, 91054, Germany.

Multispectral optoacoustic tomography is a promising medical imaging modality that combines light and sound to provide molecular imaging information at depths of several centimeters, based on the optical absorption of endogenous chromophores, such as hemoglobin. Assessment of inflammatory bowel disease has emerged as a promising clinical application of optoacoustic tomography. In this context, preclinical studies in animal models are essential to identify novel disease-specific imaging biomarkers and understand findings from emerging clinical pilot studies, however to-date, these studies have been limited by the precise identification of the bowel wall.

Surgical resection and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy have enhanced the outlook for breast cancer patients. However, tumor relapse and serious side effects of chemotherapy continue to impact patients' quality of life. Designing injectable composite hydrogel made of biodegradable polymers providing sustained release of antiangiogenic and chemotherapeutic agents might play a vital role in elimination of cancer cells.
