A hippuran renogram pattern of the type usually interpreted as indicating urinary tract obstruction was seen in acute tubular necrosis and was present both in the oliguric and in the diuretic phase. It seems that in acute renal failure the renogram does not distinguish urinary tract obstruction from intrinsic renal disease.

Ortho-[(131)I]iodohippurate [(131)I]OIH (marketed as Hippuran I 131), a gold standard for radionuclide renography, and [(123)I]OIH were in clinical use for decades. Here we radiolabeled OIH with (124)I (a positron emitter) to combine the desirable biological properties of OIH and to enable the use of positron emission tomography (PET) for renography. [(124)I]OIH was synthesized with a slight modification to a previously reported method for the kit preparation of [(123)I]OIH based on the Cu(II) catalyzed isotope-exchange reaction.

Purpose: The benefit of surgery on renal function in unilateral ureteropelvic junction stenosis (UPJS) is still debated. We evaluated renal function outcome after unilateral pyeloplasty in 53 children.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 123I-hippuran renography performed at diagnosis and 5 to 15 years (mean +/- SD 7 +/- 3 years) after successful pyeloplasty.

Objectives: To evaluate the renal function outcome in children with unilateral hydronephrosis and urinary flow impairment at the pelviureteral junction with respect to the therapeutic strategy.
Methods: We retrospectively selected 45 children with iodine-123-hippuran renography performed at diagnosis and after 3 or more years of follow-up. All children had bilateral nonobstructive pattern findings on diuretic renography at follow-up.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of the kidney split function (KSF), the effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) and glomerular filtration rate (GF) in the evolution of diabetic nephropathy.
Material And Methods: 125 patients (IDDM:10, NIDDM:115), including 62 men, ages 18-84 years, were studied. In all cases GF (Cr 51 EDTA), ERPF (131I-hippuran), kidney split function (obtained from the 99mTc-MAG3 renogram) and basal serum creatinine (SC) were evaluated at the beginning of the study and patients were clinically followed up for 5 years by SC.

Unlabelled: We studied the response to F+0 renography and the relative and absolute individual kidney function in neonates and < 6-mo-old infants before and after surgery for unilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UJO).
Methods: The results obtained at diagnosis and after pyeloplasty for 9 children (8 boys, 1 girl; age range, 0.8-5.
