Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of RF-data-based quantitative analysis (R-QVS) and dynamic vector flow imaging (VFI) in assessing changes in carotid artery structure and function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
  • Researchers analyzed data from 275 participants, comparing carotid artery parameters such as thickness, stiffness, and wall shear stress among different patient groups, showing significant variations in these measures based on diabetes status.
  • The findings indicate that certain ultrasound parameters are valuable in detecting changes in the carotid arteries of T2DM patients, with several factors being significant predictors of carotid intima-media thickness.

The development of facile, accurate, and affordable assays for microRNAs (miRNAs) in early cancer is greatly desirable but encounters an obstacle due to low cellular abundance in biofuids. In this study, we present a novel approach called a ight-triggered onential mplification strategy coupled with a /Cas13a-based diagnostic system (LEXPA-CRISPR), which directly transduces rare miRNA targets into photocontrolled signal enhancement response. This innovative platform leverages trans-cleavage of CRISPR/Cas13a, activated by the miRNA target, to cleave specific RNA fragments within the MB@PC-NAC assembly, thus releasing free PC-single-stranded DNA (PC-ssDNA) that is modified by a photocleavable linker (PC linker).

Objective: The use of porcine animal models for cartilage injury has increased recently due to their similarity with humans with regard to cartilage thickness, limited intrinsic healing of chondral defects, and joint loading biomechanics. However, variations in the mechanical and biochemical properties of porcine hip articular cartilage among various tissue ages and weightbearing (WB) regions are still unknown. This study's aim was to characterize the mechanical and biochemical properties of porcine hip articular cartilage across various ages and WB regions.

Ethanol (EtOH) exposure during late pregnancy leads to enduring impairments in learning and memory that may stem from damage to components of the posterior limbic memory system, including the retrosplenial cortex (RSC) and anterior thalamic nuclei (ATN). In rodents, binge-like EtOH exposure during the first week of life (equivalent to the third trimester of human pregnancy) triggers apoptosis in these brain regions. We hypothesized that this effect induces long-lasting alterations in the function of RSC-projecting ATN neurons.

The utility of telemedicine in healthcare has been brought to the forefront by the COVID-19 pandemic. 'SwasthGarbh' (Healthy Pregnancy) is a multi-functional, interactive smartphone application for providing antenatal care and real-time medical support to all pregnant women (especially those in rural areas and/or do not have easy access to doctors). A randomized controlled trial (n = 150) demonstrates its utility in improving the quality of antenatal care, reducing obstetric/medical complications and achieving a positive pregnancy experience.
