Manipulating Interphase Chemistry for Aqueous Zn Stabilization: The Role of Supersaturation.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

Guangdong University of Technology, school of chemical engineering and light industry, Panyu, Guangzhou University City Outer Ring Road No. 100, 510006, Gaungzhou, CHINA.

The limited cycling durability of Zn anode, attributed to the absence of a robust electrolyte-derived solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), remains the bottleneck for the practical deployment of aqueous zinc batteries. Herein, we highlight the role of local supersaturation in governing the fundamental crystallization chemistry of Zn4SO4(OH)6·xH2O (ZSH) and propose a subtle supersaturation-controlled morphology strategy to tailor the interphase chemistry of Zn anode. By judiciously creating local high-supersaturation environment with organic caprolactam to manipulate the precipitation manner of zinc sulfate hydroxide (ZSH), lattice-lattice matched heterogeneous nucleation of ZSH (001) and Zn (002) is realized in aqueous ZnSO4, producing a dense, pseudo-coincidence interface capable of functioning as decent SEI.

Persistent humid climate favored the Qin and Western Han Dynasties in China around 2,200 y ago.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

January 2025

Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo, Oslo 0316, Norway.

The Qin and Western Han dynasties (221 BCE to 24 CE) represent an era of societal prosperity in China. However, due to a lack of high-resolution paleoclimate records it is still unclear whether the agricultural boost documented for this period was associated with more favorable climatic conditions. Here, multiparameter analysis of annually resolved tree-ring records and process-based physiological modeling provide evidence of stable and consistently humid climatic conditions during 270 to 77 BCE in northern China.

The development of highly potent and selective μ opioid receptor (MOR) modulators with favorable drug-like properties has always been a focus in the opioid domain. Our previous efforts led to the discovery of a lead compound designated as NAT, a potent centrally acting MOR modulator. However, the fact that NAT precipitated considerable withdrawal effects at higher doses largely impaired its further development.

Association of spring thermal forcing anomalies in the Tibetan Plateau with dust aerosol changes over the Taklamakan Desert.

Sci Total Environ

December 2024

Institute of Desert Meteorology, China Meteorological Administration/National observation and Research Station of Desert Meteorology, Taklimakan Desert of Xinjiang/Taklimakan Desert Meteorology Field Experiment Station of China Meteorological Administration/Xinjiang Key Laboratory of Desert Meteorology and Sandstorm/Key Laboratory of Tree-ring Physical and Chemical Research, China Meteorological Administration, Urumqi 830002, China.

The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is significantly influencing the climate and environmental evolution regionally and globally. Adjacent to the northwestern TP, the Taklimakan Desert (TD) experiences the unique pattern of dust aerosol variations due to the deep basin terrain. However, systematic studies on how TP climate change affects TD dust aerosol variations are lacking.

Introduction: Laccases are blue-multicopper containing enzymes that are known to play a role in the bioconversion of recalcitrant compounds. Their role in free radical polymerization of aromatic compounds for their valorization remains underexplored. In this study, we used a pBAD plasmid containing a previously characterized CotA laccase gene (abbreviated as -Lacc) from strain ATCC 9945a to express this enzyme and explore its biotransformation/polymerization potential on β-naphthol.
