Understanding the molecular, cellular, and physiological components of neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) is paramount for developing accurate diagnostics and efficacious therapies. However, the complexity of ND pathology and the limitations associated with conventional analytical methods undermine research. Fortunately, microfluidic technology can facilitate discoveries through improved biomarker quantification, brain organoid culture, and small animal model manipulation.

Background: Blood loss during liver transplantation (LT) remains a major concern associated with increased morbidity and reduced patient and graft survival. The high complexity of the procedure associated with the multifaceted origin of the bleeding urges early identification of high-risk patients and proper monitoring of hemostasis disorders in order to improve results. The accuracy of international normalized ratio (INR) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) to evaluate coagulation status in cirrhotic patients has been doubted.

Background: Rural populations in the United States face a diabetes mortality penalty. Self-management is a core component of treatment for type 2 diabetes, but there is low uptake of self-management education and support interventions in rural areas. Rural structural barriers to diabetes self-management have been described, yet the role of rural culture has not been extensively explored.
