A class of generated Lewis acid (LA) activated acridine complexes is reported, which act as potent photochemical catalysts for the oxidation of a variety of protected secondary amines. Acridine/LA complexes exhibit tunable excited state reduction potentials ranging from +2.07 to 2.

Background: Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), previously defined as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has been shown to be closely related to many environmental pollutants. Lately, we found methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), a new environmental pollutant, could increase NAFLD risk in American adults, which still needs more population epidemiological studies to verify, and its pathogenic mechanism is not yet clear.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among petrol station workers, diagnosed their MAFLD according to internationally recognised diagnostic criteria, assessed the potential association of MTBE exposure with MAFLD risk, and explored the miR-18a-5p/PXR/SREBP2 pathway as possible pathogenic mechanisms in male Wistar rats and HepaRG cells treated with MTBE.
Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the proposed modification of the terms of the authorisation of the feed additive consisting of a preparation of canthaxanthin (CAROPHYLL® Red 10%), regarding the addition of a new production route, by the yeast CBS 146148 and to modify the additive specifications by substituting ethoxyquin by 4.4% butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and increasing the limit for dichloromethane to 80 mg/kg. The additive is already authorised as zootechnical feed additive for breeder hens.

Heterogeneous catalysis is significantly enhanced by the use of highly porous polymers with specific functionalities, such as basic groups, which accelerate reaction rates. Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) provide a unique platform for catalytic reactions owing to their high surface areas and customizable pore structures. We herein report a series of Tröger's base polymers (TB-PIMs) with enhanced basicity, achieved through the incorporation of nitrogen-containing groups into their repeat units, such as triazine and triphenylamine.

Strawberries are valued for their aroma, which is mainly determined by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Wild strawberries, with broader and more intense VOC profiles, are especially important in breeding programs. Using HS-SPME-GC-MS, 126 VOCs were identified in the ripe fruit of 22 cultivars from four wild strawberry species.
