Objective: Approximately 20% of familial cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are caused by mutations in the gene encoding superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1). Epidemiological data have identified traumatic brain injury (TBI) as an exogenous risk factor for ALS; however, the mechanisms by which TBI may worsen SOD1 ALS remain largely undefined.
Methods: We sought to determine whether repetitive TBI (rTBI) accelerates disease onset and progression in the transgenic SOD1 mouse ALS model, and whether loss of the primary regulator of axonal degeneration sterile alpha and TIR motif containing 1 (Sarm1) mitigates the histological and behavioral pathophysiology.

Adrenal dysfunction due to over-the-counter (OTC) health supplements containing unlabeled glucocorticoids has been previously reported. Here, we present a case series of 12 patients at an urban safety net medical center evaluated by endocrinology for iatrogenic adrenal dysfunction, Cushing syndrome (CS) and/or adrenal insufficiency (AI), associated with use of OTC arthritis supplements surreptitiously containing glucocorticoids. There were 12 patients using OTC arthritis supplements (Artri King [n = 8], Ardosons [n = 3], Ajo Rey [n = 1]) included.

Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are genomic fragments integrated into human DNA from germline infections by exogenous retroviruses that threatened primates early in their evolution and are inherited vertically in the germline. So far, HERVs have been studied in the context of extensive immunopathogenic, neuropathogenic and even oncogenic effects within their host. In particular, in our paper, we elaborate on the aspects related to the possible correlation of transposable HERV elements' activation and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein's presence in cells of COVID-19 patients or upon COVID-19 vaccination with implications for natural and adaptive immunity.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) development is a gradual process in which progressive histological alterations of the intestinal mucosa damage occur over years. This process can be influenced by modifiable external factors such as lifestyle and diet. Most CRC cases (>80%) originate from conventional adenomas through the adenomatous pathway and usually harbour dysplastic cells, whereas the serrated pathway is less frequent (<20% cases) and comprises hyperplastic polyps and other polyps containing dysplastic cells.

Foreign body granuloma (FBG) is an inflammatory reaction to an exogenous agent. This entity is well known on the cutaneous organ but very rarely described in the abdominal cavity. We report three clinical cases of intraperitoneal FBG following major debulking of pseudomyxoma and intraperitoneal hyperthermia chemotherapy.
