Importance: While corticosteroid administration in septic shock has been shown to result in faster shock reversal and lower short-term mortality, the role of corticosteroids in the management of cardiogenic shock (CS) remains unexplored.
Objectives: Determine the impact of corticosteroid administration on 90-day mortality (primary outcome) in patients admitted to a critical care unit with CS.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this retrospective cohort study, we used the critical care database of Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV, and included all adult patients diagnosed with CS excluding repeated admissions, patients with adrenal insufficiency, those receiving baseline corticosteroids, and those requiring extracorporeal life support.

Biomarkers for the prediction of diabetic kidney disease are still unsatisfactory. Although D-amino acids have been shown to reflect kidney conditions, their efficacy in treating diabetic kidney disease (DKD) has not been demonstrated. This study explored the potential role of D-amino acids as progression markers for DKD, an aspect not addressed previously.

Educational and occupational horizontal segregation contribute significantly to economic inequalities, especially in contexts with a strong correspondence between fields of study and occupational outputs, such as in Germany. However, the extent to which individuals perceive disparities in economic returns across different fields of study as fair and the factors influencing these fairness evaluations remain largely unexplored. This study aims to understand fairness evaluations by assessing two theoretical explanations and their interrelation: (1) female preference for equality, where women generally favour smaller earnings disparities, and (2) biases leading to higher reward expectations for individuals in the same field of study as the evaluator.

Pregnancy is a significant period in women's lives, especially for first-time mothers, that may arouse stress, but concurrently can trigger an experience of personal growth. This study examines the association between perceived stress during pregnancy and personal growth among first-time mothers, exploring the role of intrusive and reflective rumination, and partner and family support in this association, comparing women with normal and at-risk pregnancies. 708 pregnant women in their third trimester responded to self-report questionnaires assessing stress, personal growth, event-related rumination, perceived social support, and sociodemographic characteristics.
