Objective: There are many advantages to stabilize the posterior pelvic ring injuries with a transiliac-transsacral (TITS) screw percutaneously. To identify the correct entry point and insert a guidewire accurately for a TITS screw, we propose a method of specifying the optimal entry point, and introduce a technique of enabling freehand placement of a guidewire with fluoroscopic guidance.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 116 patients who underwent pelvic CT scans and pelvic lateral radiographs at our institution from January 2020 to April 2022 were enrolled.

Background: Percutaneous iliosacral (IS) screw fixation and trans-iliac trans-sacral (TITS) screw fixation are clinically effective treatments of posterior pelvic sacroiliac fractures. In order to accurately assess the sacrum position relative to the pelvis, pelvic incidence (PI) is a commonly utilized radiographic parameter in sagittal view. This study aimed to investigate and compare the surgical outcomes and radiographic parameters of IS or TITS screw fixations for the treatment of posterior sacroiliac complex fractures with different PI values.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Vertically unstable transforaminal sacral fractures can be stabilized with several types of transiliac internal fixators (TIFI): the classical one (TIFI-C), the supraacetabular one (TIFI-A) and by dual application of TIFI (DTIFI). MATERIAL AND METHODS Pelvic models made of solid foam (Sawbones 1301) were used in the study. Mechanical loading tests were performed in order to assess the stiffness of the studied pelvic structures.

The cytokines interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and IL-6 induce osteoclast formation and may contribute to the development of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Cross-sectional studies have suggested that both IL-1 and IL-1ra secretion increase on estrogen withdrawal, and that postmenopausal osteoporosis is associated with an inadequate increase in monocyte IL-1ra secretion with age. We measured cytokine mRNA (IL-1beta, IL-1ra, IL-6, and TNF-alpha) directly in bone biopsies from early postmenopausal women to determine if a lower compensatory increase in IL-1ra mRNA could be demonstrated in women with rapid bone loss after the menopause.

We measured histologic indices of osteoblast function, bone mineralization, and osteoid accumulation separately on the cancellous, endocortical, and intracortical subdivisions of the endosteal envelope and on the combined total surface in transiliac biopsies obtained after double tetracycline labeling in 142 healthy women, aged 20-74 years, 34 who were black (19 pre- and 15 postmenopausal) and 108 white (42 pre- and 66 postmenopausal). The data were subjected to two-way analysis of variance of the four groups defined by age/menopause and ethnicity. Also, linear regressions of selected variables on age and between functionally related but independently measured variables were examined.
