With amphibians still holding the record as the most threatened class of terrestrial vertebrates, their skin microbiota has been shown to play a relevant role in their survival in a fast-changing world. Yet little is known about how abiotic factors associated with different aquatic habitats impact these skin microorganisms. Here we chose the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata), a small anuran that colonizes a wide range of wetland habitats, to investigate how the diversity and composition of both its bacterial and fungal skin communities vary across different habitats and with water characteristics (temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen) of these habitats.

Female sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent among postmenopausal females approaching 50%, with vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) being a cardinal sign. For decades, hormone replacement therapy was the only solution to relieve symptoms associated with this atrophy. Background: Many patients with a lower limb socket-suspended prothesis experience socket-related problems, such as pain, chronic skin conditions, and mechanical problems, and as a result, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is often negatively affected. A bone-anchored prosthesis can overcome these problems and improve HRQoL, but these prostheses have potential downsides as well. A valid and reliable tool to assess potential candidates for surgery concerning a favorable risk-benefit ratio between potential complications related to bone-anchored prostheses and improvements in HRQoL is not available yet.

Can black soldier fly (BSF) larvae be a protein substitute for managing adverse food reactions (AFRs) in dogs, specifically those with dermatitis? We evaluated BSF larvae's safety, tolerance, and effectiveness as a novel protein source in dogs with AFRs. Sixteen dogs, including eight healthy controls and eight diagnosed with AFRs, were fed a diet containing BSF larvae for four weeks. Skin conditions, including dermatological lesions and Pruritus Visual Analog Scale (PVAS) scores, and gastrointestinal signs, including relevant clinical signs, stool consistency, and hematological and biochemical parameters, were monitored.
