Introduction: Propofol is a widely used sedative-hypnotic agent for critically ill patients requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Despite its clinical benefits, propofol is associated with increased risks of hypertriglyceridemia. Early identification of patients at risk for propofol-associated hypertriglyceridemia is crucial for optimising sedation strategies and preventing adverse outcomes.

Background: Propofol is commonly used for pediatric MRIs to minimize patient movement. At our institution, intensivists typically administer a prophylactic 20 ml/kg saline bolus to maintain blood pressure (BP) during propofol sedation. This quality improvement project assessed whether a 10 ml/kg and a completely eliminated saline bolus are as effective as the standard 20 ml/kg bolus in completing pediatric propofol sedation and maintaining Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP).

Background: Doxepin (DX) is used orally to relieve itching but can cause side effects like blurred vision, dry mouth, and drowsiness due to its antimuscarinic effect. To reduce these adverse effects and improve skin permeation, DX is being developed in topical formulations. This study aims to improve DX skin absorption by developing a microemulsion (ME) formulation (ME-DX).
