Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste significantly contributes to the global plastic crisis, but enzymatic conversion has become an efficient and environmentally friendly strategy to combat it. Therefore, this study explored the Re-face selective depolymerization mechanisms of a novel PET-degradation peptidase, hydrolase 202. Theoretical calculations revealed that the first step, a catalytic triad-assisted nucleophilic attack, is the rate-determining step.

Antigen affinity and site of immunization dictate B cell recall responses.

Cell Rep

January 2025

Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, Division of Virology and Immunology, Karolinska Institutet, 171 65 Solna, Sweden. Electronic address:

Protective antibodies against HIV-1 require unusually high levels of somatic mutations introduced in germinal centers (GCs). To achieve this, a sequential vaccination approach was proposed. Using HIV-1 antibody knockin mice with fate-mapping genes, we examined if antigen affinity affects the outcome of B cell recall responses.

Objectives: There has been limited exploration into the nature and development of psychotic experiences (PEs) in Parkinson's disease (PD). We aimed to comprehensively assess the frequency, severity, and associated distress of paranoia and unusual sensory experiences (USEs) in PD, and to assess what variables are significantly associated with these experiences, focussing on psychological processes central to understanding PEs in non-PD groups.

Method: A questionnaire battery was completed by 369 individuals with PD with a mean age of 66 years and mean time since diagnosis of 5 years.

The occurrence of external L-glutamate at the Arabidopsis root tip triggers major changes in root architecture, but the mechanism of -L-Glu sensing is unknown. Members of the family of GLUTAMATE RECEPTOR-LIKE (GLR) proteins are known to act as amino acid-gated Ca-permeable channels and to have signalling roles in diverse plant processes. To investigate the possible role of GLRs in the root architectural response to L-Glu, we screened a collection of mutants with T-DNA insertions in each of the 20 AtGLR genes.

Multiple liver metastases of unknown origin: A case report.

World J Gastrointest Oncol

January 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, Peking University First Hospital, Beijing 100034, China.

Background: The liver is the most common site of digestive system tumor metastasis, but not all liver metastases can be traced back to the primary lesions. Although it is unusual, syphilis can impact the liver, manifesting as syphilitic hepatitis with inflammatory nodules, which might be misdiagnosed as metastasis.

Case Summary: This case report involves a 46-year-old female who developed right upper abdominal pain and intermittent low fever that persisted for more than three months.
