Article Synopsis
  • Osteogenesis imperfecta is a genetic disorder that leads to fragile bones that break easily due to collagen production issues, classified into four types from mild to severe.
  • The most serious forms, Type III and IV, often survive past infancy and require complex management strategies, including surgery, physiotherapy, and medications like bisphosphonates.
  • A case of a nine-year-old boy who experienced bone deformities and fractures highlights the need for ongoing treatment to improve his quality of life, despite the condition being incurable.

Article Synopsis
  • Thalassemic osteopathy affects bone health by making bones weaker and changing their structure, especially in adults with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT).* -
  • A study compared 63 adults with TDT to 63 healthy people and found that those with TDT had lower bone density and poorer bone quality, which means their bones were not as strong.* -
  • Factors like low hormone levels (hypogonadism) and low hemoglobin were linked to these bone problems, showing that TDT can lead to serious bone issues.*

Unlabelled: Bone microarchitecture, as assessed using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography, is adversely affected in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus having sarcopenia/sarcopenic obesity while areal bone mineral density does not differ between those with and without sarcopenia.

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases the risk of sarcopenia, which independently contributes to bone fragility. We aimed to explore the association between sarcopenia/sarcopenic obesity and bone quality using second-generation high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) in T2D.

Pediatric patients with osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection, have several difficulties. A 12-year-old child with an acute osteomyelitis diagnosis is the subject of this case study. The child had decreased limb function, a fever, and localized pain.

Background: The aim of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is to circumvent the pain due to advanced osteoarthritis of the knee joint and correct the limb alignment and biomechanics to improve patients' quality of life. Apart from medio-lateral balancing, balancing flexion and extension gaps is a prerogative to achieve good results. This study proposes a novel surgical technique of postero-central slice osteotomy of the proximal tibia (PCSO-PT) for correcting tight extension gaps in posterior-stabilized knees and assesses its clinical and functional outcomes.
