One important route of degradation of herbicide pendimethalin in soil leads to formation of non-extractable residues (NER). To investigate NER nature (irreversibly, chemically bound, including possible biogenic NER, or strongly sorbed and entrapped) residues of C-labelled pendimethalin in soil were investigated after conventional extraction with organic solvents by silylation. After 400 days of incubation, 32.

Colestilan, an anion-exchange resin binding both phosphate and bile-acid anions, is under development for the treatment of hyperphosphataemia and dyslipidaemia, which occur in the majority of end-stage renal disease patients. This study using 14C-colestilan was conducted to investigate the absorption and excretion of colestilan in humans. Following a 28-day run-in period with administration of colestilan 3 g three times daily, 12 subjects received a single oral dose of 14C-colestilan 100 mg (approximately 4.

Aims/hypothesis: Proinsulin C-peptide has been implicated in reducing complications associated with diabetes and also in improving blood flow. We hypothesised that incubation of erythrocytes with C-peptide would improve the ability of these cells to release ATP, a stimulus for nitric oxide production.
Methods: Erythrocytes obtained from rabbits (n = 11) and both healthy and type 2 diabetic humans (n = 7) were incubated with C-peptide in the absence and presence of Fe2+ and Cr3+, and the resulting ATP release was measured via chemiluminescence.

Primary cell wall polysaccharides of some plants carry ester-linked feruloyl groups that can be oxidatively dimerised both within the protoplast and after secretion into the apoplast. Apoplastic dimerisation has been postulated to form inter-polysaccharide cross-links, contributing to wall assembly, but this role remains conjectural. By feeding cultured cells with [14C]cinnamate, we monitored the kinetics of polysaccharide-binding and subsequent dimerisation of 14C-labelled feruloyl groups.
