The investigation of micro or nano plastics behavior in the environment is essential to minimize the hazards of such pollutants on humans. While the conventional method requires sophisticated procedures and a lot of animal subjects, the nuclear technique confers a sensitive, accurate, and real-time method using radiolabeled micro or nano plastics as a tracer. In this study, polystyrene sulfonate-based microplastic (PSM) was developed with a size of around 3.

The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science has developed a new concrete reference material (RM) for measuring gamma-emitting radionuclides, such as Cs, Cs, Zn, Am, and Co, to improve and maintain the quality assurance and quality control of the radioactivity measurement in radioactive waste generated during the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. In this study, cement, SiO, and bentonite, which are the main components of concrete, were mixed in an appropriate ratio with radionuclides. For certification and homogeneity assessment, 10 bottles were randomly selected, two sub-samples were collected from each bottle, and radionuclides were measured via HPGe gamma spectrometry.

Using zinc (Zn) foliar fertilizers to enhance the grain quality of wheat () can be an effective alternative or supplement to Zn soil fertilizers. However, knowledge about the mechanisms of Zn absorption and translocation following foliar application is scarce. Here, autoradiography and γ-spectrometry were used to investigate the behavior of Zn applied to wheat leaves as soluble Zn chloride (ZnCl), chelated Zn (ZnEDTA), Zn oxide nanoparticle (ZnO-NP) suspensions, and ZnO microparticle (ZnO-MP) suspensions.

Cellulose nanofibers (CNF) reduced serum triglyceride levels in rats when co-administered with heavy cream by gavage. Do CNF and other nanomaterials (NMs) alter the tissue distribution and retention of co-administered metal ions? We evaluated whether 5 different NMs affected tissue distribution of co-ingested Zn and Fe in zinc-replete versus zinc-deficient mice. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed either zinc-replete or zinc-deficient diets for 3 weeks, followed by gavage with NM suspensions in water containing both ZnCl and FeCl.

The dissolved oxygen concentration of the world's oceans has systematically declined by 2% over the past 50 years, and there has been a notable commensurate expansion of the global oxygen minimum zones (OMZs). Such wide-scale ocean deoxygenation affects the distribution of biological communities, impacts the physiology of organisms that may affect their capacity to absorb and process contaminants. Therefore, the bioaccumulation efficiencies of three contrasting radionuclides, Ag, Cs and Zn were investigated using controlled aquaria in the blue mussel Mytilus edulis under three contrasting dissolved oxygen regimes: normoxic; 7.
