Immunocompromised individuals are at risk for developing lymphocryptovirus-associated lymphoproliferative diseases, such as Epstein Barr virus (EBV)-associated B cell lymphomas and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD). We previously reported development of cynomolgus lymphocryptovirus (CyLCV)-associated PTLD in Mauritian cynomolgus macaques (MCMs) undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), which mirrored EBV-PTLD in transplant patients. Here, we sought to develop a MCM model of lymphocryptovirus-associated lymphoproliferative disease in immunosuppressed MCMs without HSCT.

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a peroxisomal disorder caused by mutations in the ABCD1 gene and characterized by impaired very long-chain fatty acid beta-oxidation. Clinically, male patients develop adrenal failure and progressive myelopathy in adulthood, although the age of onset and rate of progression are highly variable. In addition, 40% of male patients develop a leukodystrophy (cerebral ALD) before the age of 18 years.

Primary breast Burkitt lymphoma (PB-BL) is an exceedingly rare form of primary breast lymphoma. Ultrasonography is the preferred modality for diagnosing breast diseases; however, the ultrasonic features of Burkitt lymphoma have rarely been reported. Herein, we report a case of ultrasonically diagnosed bilateral PB-BL in a lactating patient and present a literature review.

Background: Liver malignancy invading the retrohepatic inferior vena cava beyond the cavo-hepatic vein venous confluence can be resected by an ante situm technique first described by Hannoun et al. In this approach, a major hepatectomy is performed and the hepatic veins are sectioned to allow the inferior vena cava reconstruction while the liver is cold perfused and the liver remains within the abdominal cavity. The hepatic vein is then reimplanted on the reconstructed inferior vena cava in "a liver autotransplantation fashion.

Recognizing the limitations of current therapies for Addison's disease, novel treatments that replicate dynamic physiologic corticosteroid secretion, under control of ACTH, are required. The aim of these experiments was to evaluate the feasibility of adrenocortical cell transplantation (ACT) in a large animal model, adapting methods successfully used for intracutaneous pancreatic islet cell transplantation, using a fully biodegradable temporizing matrix. Autologous porcine ACT was undertaken by bilateral adrenalectomy, cell isolation, culture, and intracutaneous injection into a skin site preprepared using a biodegradable temporizing matrix (BTM) foam.
