[Ledderhose's disease].

Chir Ital

Published: February 1979

The authors review the cases of Ledderhose's disease come to their observation at the "Gaetano Pini" Orthopedic Clinic of Milan. They explain that this condition, formerly regarded as extremely rare, can no longer be considered such in the light of modern observations. After giving a brief discussion of clinical and anatomopathological features, they state that the condition is essentially benign and often associated with Dupuytren's disease. They also believe that surgical correction should be done only in the more severe instances, and comment on the extreme rarity of relapses in cases treated surgically.

Genes Chromosomes Cancer

September 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • Classical and mixed congenital mesoblastic nephroma (CMN) show an internal tandem duplication (ITD) of the EGFR gene, while cellular CMN typically has an ETV6::NTRK3 gene fusion, which is also found in infantile fibrosarcoma.
  • A study on pediatric fibromatosis revealed that none of the cases exhibited EGFR ITD, suggesting that fibromatosis is not characterized by this genetic alteration.
  • The findings indicate that soft tissue tumors with EGFR ITD may resemble infantile fibrosarcoma or mixed CMN, but further research is needed to understand their biological behavior in comparison to fibrosarcoma and other related tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • Palmar or plantar fibromatosis is a benign condition that can impair hand or foot function, and while surgery is common, radiation therapy (RT) can also be effective in managing symptoms.
  • A study involved three patients receiving RT for fibromatosis, using custom-designed 3D-printed boluses created from CT imaging to enhance treatment effectiveness.
  • The results showed the printed boluses had very minimal shape deviations, good density accuracy, and no significant issues during treatment, indicating that 3D printing could improve RT dosimetry for this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reviewed the sonographic characteristics of palmar fibromatosis (PF) from 2017 to 2023, focusing on the occurrence and implications of the Comb Sign, which was previously studied in plantar fibromas.
  • A total of 87 fibromas from 53 patients were examined, revealing that 39% exhibited the Comb Sign and most palmar fibromas were located very close to the A1 pulley.
  • The findings suggest the Comb Sign can assist in diagnosing PF, and highlight the connection between palmar fibromas and trigger finger, making this information valuable for surgeons before operations.
