A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF INTRINSIC AND EXTRINSIC FACTORS INFLUENCING INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE IN BROOK TROUT ().

J Zoo Wildl Med

January 2021

the Département de sciences cliniques, Faculté de médecine vétérinaire, Université de Montréal, Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec J2S 2M2, Canada.

Reference intervals of intraocular pressure (IOP) are poorly described in piscine species as the factors that may influence it. Rebound tonometry was used to measure IOP in 28 adult brook trout () anesthetized in a buffered solution of 60 mg/L tricaine methanesulfonate ( = 16) or restrained with electronarcosis ( = 12) at 16 mA. There was no significant effect of the eye side, sex, fish origin, and body weight, but IOP values were significantly higher with electronarcosis (mean ± SD: 16.

[Transcerebral electrostimulation in hypnotic drug withdrawal].

Encephale

November 1990

Laboratoire de Sommeil, Hôpital Saint-André, Bordeaux.

This preliminary study attempted to test the efficacy of electrosleep therapy on hypnotic drug withdrawal. Among 89 outpatients complaining of chronic insomnia and receiving a heavy hypnotic drug treatment, an efficient withdrawal associated with a marked improvement of self-reported sleep was observed in 78% of cases, especially when insomnia was not related to medical aetiologies or to major psychiatric disorders. These results suggest further controlled studies to determine the magnitude of the placebo component in the effect observed.

In this article the authors have taken in to account the use of diadynamic currents with antalgic aim in odontostomatologic surgery. Based on clinical results in a number of cases, which cannot be analysed statistically due to insufficient number of patients to provide reliable data, the authors conclude that the results obtained justify further research in this field.

Alterations in excitability of low-, medium- and high-threshold single mechanoreceptors (SMRs) of hairless hind paw skin elicited by transcranial electrical stimulation (TES) in analgesic regime were studied in anesthetized rats. Evoked impulsations of low- and medium-threshold SMRs were blocked by TES that lasted for about 1 and 5 min, respectively. TES for 18-20 min in duration abolished the reactions of high threshold SMRs activated only by nociceptive stimuli.
