Penetrating orbit injury is a rare but complex and life-threatening occurrence that may easily be overlooked. Management in the emergency department requires an early multidisciplinary approach but still lacks standard guidelines. This narrative review aims to provide a systematic approach to the management of penetrating orbital injuries for emergency clinicians.

Background: Early detection of cognitive impairment in patients with acute stroke could improve dementia treatment; however, such testing is uncommon. This study aimed to assess cognitive testing feasibility in patients with acute stroke and identify patient characteristics associated with testing ability.
Methods: 291 patients with suspected acute stroke were admitted to our hospital between December 2016 and May 2017.

Objective: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) may present as proximal aortic pathology requiring surgical intervention. We present our experience with surgical management of GCA in patients presenting with proximal aortic disease.
Methods: From January 1993 to May 2020, 184 adult patients were diagnosed with GCA on histopathology after undergoing cardiac surgery.

Young people with stroke require detailed investigation because uncommon causes are more likely. A 19-year-old woman presented with multiple cortical and subcortical infarcts, arterial aneurysms, anaemia and hypertension. Further evaluation identified a systemic vasculopathy secondary to a deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2, a rare treatable monogenic disorder.

Isolated foot drop is a neurological sign frequently linked to lower motor neuron (LMN) lesions, including peroneal nerve damage or L4-L5 radiculopathy. Nonetheless, upper motor neuron (UMN) lesions, such as strokes or tumors located in the parasagittal motor cortex, may sometimes manifest as isolated foot drops. The main causes of isolated foot drop secondary to central etiologies are uncommon, with few instances documented in the literature.
