Creation and Implementation of a Blood Smear Simulation Model.

J Vet Med Educ

September 2024

Antech Diagnostics, Tucson, AZ 85743, USA.

Being able to prepare a diagnostic blood smear for evaluation is an essential skill for veterinary practitioners. While this basic technique can be demonstrated via videos or illustrations, it can only be learned through practice and with feedback. With the necessity for virtual learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, a model was developed and paired with an online module to facilitate at home instruction and practice of blood smear preparation.

Medical gloves, along with masks and gowns, serve as the initial line of defense against potentially infectious microorganisms and hazardous substances in the health sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical gloves played a significant role, as they were widely utilized throughout society in daily activities as a preventive measure. These products demonstrated their value as important personal protection equipment (PPE) and reaffirmed their relevance as infection prevention tools.

Fully bio-based hydrogels with printability, high toughness, self-healing, robust mechanical property and conductivity are highly desired but now remain a huge challenge. In this work, inspired by preparation of "Liangpi" (cold noodles, a traditional Chinese food), a satisfactory hydrogel was constructed using starch and natural rubber latex through a simple heating process. Benefitting from the physical dual cross-linked network, the resultant composite hydrogels exhibited high mechanical properties (ultimate tensile stress of 1.

The industrialization of perovskite solar cells relies on solving intrinsic-to-material issues. To reach record efficiencies perovskite deposition needs to be finely adjusted by multi-step processes, in a humidity free glove-box environment and by means of hardly scalable techniques often associated with toxic solvents and anti-solvent dripping/bath. Herein, the use of polymeric material is proposed to deposit perovskite layers with easy processability.

Since the introduction of surgical gloves, one of the main challenges has been to improve donning and wearability. For the wearer, the formation of "glove juice" is problematic. To improve gliding properties for donning the gloves and absorbing sweat, in 1963 Bio-sorb cream: sterile powder cream (Johnson & Johnson Medical, Gargrave, Skipton, United Kingdom) was introduced.
