Background/purpose: Identifying crestal bone level (CBL) on the buccal and lingual aspects poses challenges in conventional dental radiographs. Given that optical coherence tomography (OCT) has the capability to non-invasively provide in-depth information about the periodontium, this in vitro study aimed to assess whether OCT can effectively identify periodontal landmarks and measure CBL in the presence of gingiva.

Materials And Methods: An in-house handheld scanning probe connected to a 1310-nm swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) system, along with self-developed algorithms were employed to measure the CBL in dental models with artificial gingiva.

Background: Hallux valgus (HV) is a complex, multiplanar deformity. In this study, we examined the interrelationships between various components of this deformity using weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT). We hypothesized that the severity of traditional axial plane deformities would correlate with malpositioning of the metatarsosesamoid complex, first-ray coronal rotational deformity, and malalignment of the hindfoot and midfoot.

Marker-Less Video Analysis of Infant Movements for Early Identification of Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Diagnostics (Basel)

January 2025

Research Coordination and Support Service, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Viale Regina Elena 299, 00161 Rome, Italy.

The early identification of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in infants is crucial for effective intervention and improved long-term outcomes. Recent evidence indicates a correlation between deficits in spontaneous movements in newborns and the likelihood of developing NDDs later in life. This study aims to address this aspect by employing a marker-less Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach for the automatic assessment of infants' movements from single-camera video recordings.

Background: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) demands near-time reperfusion to reduce the risk of long-term heart failure. This study evaluates the proportion of impaired left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) following STEMI in the context of current healthcare settings at a tertiary care center equipped with the most advanced and up-to-date standards of care.

Methods: Patients experiencing STEMI as their first manifestation of coronary artery disease were analyzed, as these individuals had no prior experience with heart-related chest pain.
